I am glad that he moved on to running his sophomore year in high school. My husband was a big jock in HS. Captain of the football team and basketball teams. Blessedly, my husband prefers college football, and, as we are both University of Miami alumni, we have season tickets for the WHOLE family. Ever been to a college football game with a toddler, in the no alcohol section, in about 100 degrees in the shade in mid fall? Trust me, you don't want to know.

However, I love going and cursing, yelling at the ref's for their crappy calls. It is an acquired taste, but college football lacks the materialism and flaunting of money that accompanies the NFL...I think my husband would be proud of that last statement! I am not the least bit interested in watching sports, in particular on TV and don't understand this male need to watch anything and everything that is sport or sport related. My husband watched the draft last night and could barely look away from the TV set to talk to me. (Bit like when I watch The Good Wife perhaps but still, the Good Wife is great TV!). We are English so American Football was never his thing either, but in lieu of soccer and rugby he has adopted American Football as "his" sport with gusto!!Aging Mommyhttp://agingmommyblog.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3156821579309080273.post-60214876672586345722010-04-23T22:37:43.523-07:002010-04-23T22:37:43.523-07:00Nicki, I'm really proud of him and secretly (n...Nicki, I'm really proud of him and secretly (not so secretly) thrilled I didn't raise a hippie! On the other hand, I have done this trip with sons and daughters for football, baseball, soccer, and track for years.

I am a sports fanatic!! Not just a little liking of them but LOVE them. My second son's senior year in high school, the football team he was a part of won the state championship for our class (based on enrollment). I worked my way through college tutoring for the athletic department at a major division 1 university. I know people who play (played mostly because well, let's face it, university was a while back) in the NFL.

Your son will be a natural at punting. The football teams here try hard to convince soccer players to come be punters. Enjoy it as it is truly a unique experience.

Label in high school - I was kind of a geek. I graduated high in my class without trying. Didn't make the cut when I tried to be a cheerleader. Worked days after school on the yearbook.
